Our Environmental Services Group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. We provide integrated, multidisciplinary services to identify and assess liabilities and risks, and to develop solutions to site management, remediation, and mitigation. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources management, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, information management, environmental monitoring, in-situ/ex-situ remedial design and implementation, human health and ecological risk assessments, air quality permitting and reporting, pipeline compliance, stormwater permitting and planning, and audit support services. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with Aboriginal communities, the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include baseline studies, environmental assessment and permitting, water resources management, risk or impact assessment, site decommissioning, closure, reclamation and environmental monitoring.

Responsibilities:

We have an immediate opening in Ontario for an Intermediate or Senior Mining Closure and Rehabilitation Specialist. In this role you will:

  • Complete or amend existing Closure Plans as well as, help clients sequence steps required to implement site closure and remediation or rehabilitation requirements. In some cases you may also work with clients during the exploration or mine development phases.
  • Work with clients to plan the decommissioning of mining operations such that environmental effects and financial liabilities are minimized.
  • Work closely with specialists in the areas of geochemisry, geochemical modelling, environmental assessment and mine auditing to help develop the most appropriate closure strategy. You will be working with geotechnical/ tailings engineers and various other types of mining engineers.
  • Specific responsibilities will include client development and project management, technical guidance, development and implementation of work programs and management of schedules, budgets and client deliverables.
  • In addition to closure planning work, you will be involved in environmental assessments and other permitting activities related to mine development.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Minimum of 10 years of mining related closure planning and rehabilitation experience. Preferably with a related degree in the relevant sciences or engineering.
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng or a P.Geo. within 6 months of commencement of employment in the province of Ontario.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Ontario Regulation 240/00 – Mine Development and Closure Plan under Part VII of the Mining Act.
  • Experience with mine closure planning at all stages of mine life from exploration or prefeasibility through to mine closure and rehabilitation.
  • You will have successfully completed numerous Closure Plans and have a keen ability to identify what the key closure issues will be at a site.
  • Project experience with early and effective Aboriginal community engagement in mineral exploration and mining projects is a benefit for this position .
  • Knowledge of mineral exploration methods, mine waste disposal methods, mineral processing methods with various type of mines, precious, base metal, uranium, potash, coal etc.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills are required.
