We are currently looking for a Pipeline Crossings Design Lead to join our Oil & Gas group in Quarry Park. This position is to lead the Crossing Design Group within the pipeline discipline focusing on the design of all manner of pipeline crossings. This group will be charged with the detail design of pipeline crossings of significant obstacles such as major water bodies, large road or rail facilities, or other topographical features which are outside the normal pipelining practice. It is intended to be a ‘one-stop’ group to manage both the field information gathering and design processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Design of pipeline crossings by all three methods (conventional open cut, trenchless technologies, & aerial spans)
  • Manage a team of design staff (engineers, technologists, and design drafters) to complete the design process
  • Coordinate the various groups involved in the data gathering process (surveyors, geotechnical field crews, soils laboratories, etc.)
  • Build the design processes required to complete competent designs and document them in procedures
  • Lead, mentor and develop the design team to execute the processes listed above
  • Represent the Crossing Design Group to potential clients both within and outside Stantec
  • Manage the group’s budget and recruitment process
  • Keep abreast of technological developments in the crossings and general pipeline construction field
  • Develop succession plans for the role

Qualifications:
  • B. Sc. or greater in engineering (mechanical or civil preferred) from a recognized institution
  • Professional Engineer registered in Alberta (minimum) and eligible to register in other Canadian or US jurisdictions
  • Minimum 15 years of pipeline design and/or construction experience in Canada or a similar jurisdiction with a focus of crossings
  • Minimum 10 years of consulting engineering practice with some experience in a lead consultant role
  • Experience working with and making presentations to clients and potential clients
  • Demonstrated innovative, out-of-the-box thinking skills
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills
