Finding efficient, safe, and economical ways to develop and deliver oil and gas is an ongoing challenge. From the Arctic to the Canadian oil sands and the US shale plays, our Oil & Gas team partners with clients to provide engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM), permitting, survey, and environmental services across the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas industry. We design facilities, pipelines, terminals, and refineries, as well as critical infrastructure like processing plants and field facilities. Through our partnerships, industry experience, and use of technology, we develop new and inventive ways to solve emerging issues, meet regulations, and increase productivity. We are currently seeking a Pipeline Crossings Design Lead to join our Oil & Gas team in our Calgary Quarry Park office.

  • Design of pipeline crossings by all three methods (conventional open cut, trenchless technologies, & aerial spans)
  • Manage a team of design staff (engineers, technologists, and design drafters) to complete the design process
  • Coordinate the various groups involved in the data gathering process (surveyors, geotechnical field crews, soils laboratories, etc.)
  • Build the design processes required to complete competent designs and document them in procedures
  • Lead, mentor and develop the design team to execute the processes listed above
  • Represent the Crossing Design Group to potential clients both within and outside Stantec
  • Manage the group’s budget and recruitment process
  • Keep abreast of technological developments in the crossings and general pipeline construction field
  • Develop succession plans for the role

  • B. Sc. or greater in engineering (mechanical or civil preferred) from a recognized institution
  • Professional Engineer registered in Alberta (minimum) and eligible to register in other Canadian or US jurisdictions
  • Minimum 15 years of pipeline design and/or construction experience in Canada or a similar jurisdiction with a focus of crossings
  • Minimum 10 years of consulting engineering practice with some experience in a lead consultant role
  • Experience working with and making presentations to clients and potential clients
  • Demonstrated innovative, out-of-the-box thinking skills
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills
