Maryland Environmental Service has a vacancy for a Mechanic I (Grade 2) in Derwood, Maryland. Responsibilities include performing installation, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (i.e.: wheel loaders, forklifts, tub grinders, etc.).
Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and 3 years experience performing installation, repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and a valid driver's license with less than 6 points.
Note: Formal schooling from an accredited vocational school with a major in a related field may be substituted for experience. Education experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required experience.
Preference given to candidates with mechanical experience with industrial equipment - conveyors, heavy duty chain conveyors, belts, rollers, bearings, electric motors, gear boxes, and balers. MIG and stick welding experience and torch experience, a plus. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for maintenance of electric motors, radiators, filters, and grease and lubrication of equipment. Mechanical experience with front end loaders, and forklifts, a plus, but not required. The candidate will learn to operate a baler and will be required to perform labor-related functions including sweeping and shoveling.
