JOB TITLE: Special Events Associate
DEPARTMENT: Development
REPORTS TO: Development Director
FLSA STATUS: Full Time, exempt
General Statement of Duties
The mission of BREATHE LA is promoting clean air and healthy lungs through research, education, advocacy and technology. The Special Events Associate will support the fundraising process of the organization with a primary focus on special events. This position works with members of the Development staff, volunteer membership, board members and others by performing the following responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Special focus on special events, online event-driven fundraising, utilizing social media and BREATHE LA online elements (web site, facebook, twitter, and others as appropriate)
• Research and prepare solicitations of financial support for special events
• Assists in developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program
• Identify 5-10 prospects a month for general donations/new members
• Continual updates in DonorPerfect fundraising database, and reporting on identification, cultivation, and solicitation process of key prospects to Development staff
• Work with Development team to ensure acknowledgements on a timely basis
• Outreach related to fundraising and cause related marketing activities
• Demonstrates a well-informed understanding of the programs and services that BREATHE California of Los Angeles County (BREATHE LA) provides to the community
• Adheres to BREATHE LA’s policies and procedures consistent with the mission and vision
• Identifies and recommends improvements and additional opportunities to the Director of Development and Development staff
• Responsible for other activities as assigned by the Development Director
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Bachelor’s degree
Related fundraising and special events experience with proven track record
Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to balance priorities and take initiatives
Nonprofit experience in Southern California preferred
Professional experience in public health and environment preferred
A results-oriented team player with high professional standards, attention to detail, and commitment to the nonprofit sector
Experience and ability to recruit, manage and retain volunteers
Ability to multi-task
Fluency with Microsoft Office suite and database program(s)
