Responsibilities:

The Lethbridge office is seeking a GIS / IT Support Technician. Our office provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for all phases of municipal and industrial projects, including land development, water, wastewater, transportation, wind power, buildings, and related civil projects. With a unique multidisciplinary team approach, we’re equipped with state-of-the-art survey tools, simulation models, specialized design software, and computer-aided design and drafting (GIS/CADD) facilities.

This position will also incorporate responsibilities as an IT Support Technician to provide internal support and services with respect to desktop computer hardware, software, Server maintenance, Storage, and Backup Administration.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

GIS Responsibilities:

  • Management and administration of spatial data for various projects, including maintaining data integrity, quality and completeness (including metadata), and working with 3 rd party vendors;
  • Provide technical services including advanced GIS data modeling, 3D analysis, cartography, script writing, web-map publishing and geo-processing in support of specific project tasks;
  • Assists with spatial database design and administration, directing best practices with the IT support team and an understanding of GIS programming;
  • Provides GIS services in support of CAD activities;
  • Develop documentation including workflow diagrams, GIS procedures and GIS work instructions.

IT Responsibilities

  • Advanced configuration/reconfiguration of hardware, including workstations and printers;
  • Analyze and resolve end-user hardware, software and connectivity issues
  • Create and update accurate and consistent records;
  • Monitor progress on problem resolution and advise users on status of issue;
  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge of relevant product offerings and support policies in order to provide technically accurate solutions to our internal clients;
  • Routine daily maintenance of network backups and network security.
Qualifications:
  • GIS specific training during undergraduate program or subsequent diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology
  • A wide-ranging and in-depth understanding of GIS and geomatics concepts, spatial analysis, GIS and related software integration, and spatial modeling
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS suite of software (i.e. ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server)
  • Proven ability to develop and implement geo-processing models for analysis, reporting, and modeling activities, batch processing and automated report generation. Data driven pages experience would be an asset
  • Experience with hydrological modeling, land planning, and related mapping considered an asset.
  • Your expertise also includes a solid knowledge of PC hardware and the ability to set up, configure, and rebuild workstations.

  • Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments
  • Imagination and enthusiasm in their work and willingness to add value to projects where possible.
