Job Description: 

The BlueGreen Alliance (BGA) is an innovative national partnership between ten national labor unions and four national environmental organizations working to create good jobs, a clean environment and a green economy. BGA is focused on promoting programs and policies that result in the development of clean energy and green technology with a special emphasis on:

  • solutions to environmental problems such as climate change, that create quality jobs across  the economy, including scaling up renewables, energy efficiency,  clean energy manufacturing and sustainable transportation;
  • the promotion of strong, effective regulatory policy,  green chemistry,  safe food,  green schools and other sustainable practices that have an impact on both workplaces and communities; and
  • workers’ rights.

JOB SUMMARY

BGA seeks a full-time Grants Manager in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. to manage a growing docket of foundation and government grants in a high-volume development department responsible for raising $10 million annually. The Grants Manager will report to the Director of Development. The successful candidate will have a background working in nonprofit development, with experience in foundation, major donor and grassroots fundraising a plus. Strong writing ability is essential, as well as research, communication and organizational skills. Interest and/or work experience in economic development and the environment is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage foundation and government grants process;
  • Write, edit, and submit letters of inquiry, grant reports, and grant proposals;
  • Work with the Director of Development, Executive Director and other program or project leaders to ensure timely responses to fundraising deadlines, opportunities and grant obligation fulfillment;
  • Prepare timely reports on pending grants, proposal and report deadlines, and other fundraising deadlines;
  • Research, identify and develop foundation and government grant prospects;
  • Collect, process and maintain funder information and grant guidelines in a sophisticated fundraising database and file system;
  • Produce and maintain grant application and reporting materials;
  • Process grants and produce acknowledgements and other funder correspondence;
  • Assist in the production and distribution of BGA marketing materials;
  • Provide assistance in corporate, major donor, grassroots and event fundraising efforts as needed;
  • Assist the Director of Development with other assignments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three years of grant writing and management experience.
  • Additional experience with government, major donor, direct mail, corporate and/or event fundraising preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, self-starter.
  • Successful candidates must possess extreme attention to detail.
  • This is a high volume development department; speed and accuracy are critical.
  • Experience with fundraising databases.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people on teams.
  • Experience working on labor or environmental issues a plus.
  • Experience in developing outreach materials preferred.
  • Experience in organizing events preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Interest in labor and environmental issues preferred.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.
