The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) Recruiting & Development Coordinator will be responsible for identifying and building relationships with recruitment sources; recruiting, interviewing, and selecting SCC participants; managing selection and AmeriCorps paperwork; direct participant and program support; aiding members with post program placement; and participating in the development of new programs and trainings.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions:
Recruitment & Marketing
Develop and implement an SCC Participant recruiting strategy targeting Arizona.
Develop and maintain posters, brochures, flyers, job postings, presentations, job descriptions, applications, program participant manual, and all other related materials.
Schedule and attend recruitment events throughout Arizona.
Establish and maintain a database of all recruiting contacts.
Maintain updated program descriptions on the SCC website.
Create and submit advertisements for newspapers, newsletters, and internet.
Submit articles and updates for newsletter.
Develop and maintain alumni network.
Enroll and exit crew members in compliance with AmeriCorps.
Manage all hiring paperwork.
Maintain database records for reporting purposes.
Maintain and update all AmeriCorps records.
Ensure service hours are completed on time.
Complete other reports as needed.
Interview, select, and place over 150 SCC Participants each year for a variety of programs; including youth field crews, military veteran crews, urban day crews, and individual placements.
Process and maintain personnel files and ensure proper paperwork is on file.
Check in with SCC Participants during field visits and as needed during de-rig.
Participate in the development of new programs and trainings.
Assist crew leaders with SCC Participant needs in the field.
Assist with the development of Crew Leader trainings.
Mentor and assist individuals with career development and placement.
Coordinate workshops leading to employment and educational opportunities after SCC.
Enforce all SCC Policies and Procedures.
Respond to crew emergency situations, including last-minute travel and overnight stay.
Participate in a weekly on-call system for crews in the field.
To successfully perform essential functions the Recruiting and Development Coordinator is required to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear. May be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on a frequent basis.
Must be able to operate office equipment, telephone, computer, reach with hands and arms, name other equipment of use.
Must be able to drive a vehicle frequently during work shift.

Experience with SCC, other youth conservation corps, or youth development program.
Good organizational, managerial and problem-solving skills.
Desire to spend time in the company of youth and young adults; ability to instigate fun!
Excellent communication and teaching/mentoring skills.
Strong conflict resolution and team-building skills.
Able to work independently and also motivate others.
Computer literate (MS Word and Excel proficient).
Valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
High School Diploma or GED with related work experience.
Must be able to pass a criminal history background check.
Previous experience with a Corps or youth serving organization.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
Current CPR & WFR-certified; has demonstrated good judgment in emergency situations.
