Working from our Dartmouth, NS office, this Lead position will supervise the engineering activities for the Structural Engineering group, planning and directing engineering and design assignments. You will have technical responsibilities of interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Principal Responsibilities include:

  • Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work.
  • Performs work, which involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts between other engineering disciplines.
  • Responsible for on-the-job training of assigned personnel and for their performance evaluations.
  • Prepares letters to vendors and clients.
  • Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendations.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of proposals, conceptual studies, details, designs, and reports.
  • Reviews project controls, cost estimates, quantity takeoffs and manpower requirement for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviews and checks work of subordinate discipline engineers

  • A thorough knowledge of engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations. A broad knowledge of the application of engineering to Industrial Building and facilities methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of computer applications to engineering and design. A thorough knowledge of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
  • A broad knowledge of principles and practices of related technical areas. In addition, a broad knowledge of related Industrial practices and building codes.
  • A current knowledge of industry or regulatory standards and design criteria.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; capable of writing reports, letters and technical specifications.
  • Capable of managing engineers, designers and technicians
  • Professional Engineer with the ability to be licensed to practice structural engineering in the Nova Scotia region
