The Energy Center of Wisconsin is seeking an electrical engineer/lighting designer with a desire to apply both reason and creativity towards a sustainable energy society. We are a private non-profit organization that is mission-driven, independent, and objective. We seek practical solution paths among a world of competing interests. We are currently seeking an electrical engineer or lighting designer to join us in our Madison or Chicago office.
Primary responsibilities:
- Participate in developing electrical engineering and/or lighting design analysis for commercial and industrial new construction and major renovation projects with concentration in energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Ability to perform lighting calculations (daylight and electric light), develop lighting layouts and analyze fixture schedules and specifications
- Develop presentation materials such as technical assistance reports, renderings and graphics
- Evaluate energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies in buildings
- Identify, quantify, and optimize energy savings opportunities during early building design stages of new and existing buildings
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher and three or more years of experience in electrical engineering, architecture, or related field
- Fundamental knowledge of building electrical engineering design, building energy systems, energy efficiency
- Ability to work in a flexible work environment
- Excellent communications skills
Desirable experience:
- Knowledge of high performance lighting and daylighting specifications and implementation
- Design firm or facilities experience with energy systems in commercial or institutional facilities
- Knowledge of relevant building energy codes such as IECC, green building rating systems, IES, and ASHRAE standards
- Ability to quantify energy performance, life cycle cost economics and emissions reduction potential
- Familiarity using Radiance or Ray Tracing modeling (i.e. AGi32 or similar) and proficiency in recent versions of AutoCAD MEP
- Ability to develop customized energy/daylighting analysis models
- Experience with energy modeling software such as eQUEST, TRACE, EnergyPlus or other similar software
- Professional engineering registration, LC, and/or LEED Accreditation
- IES and/or IALD membership
- Experience with client interaction, supporting existing client relationships and public presentations
- Experience with federal, state or utility energy efficiency programs
