Responsibilities:

Stantec's Dartmouth office is currently looking for a Senior Automation /Controls Engineer /Designer. This individual will be an excellent communicator and skilled problem-solver with a strong attention to detail. This is a dynamic work environment where you will play a pivotal role in a diverse range of projects, from initial planning to design to construction.

This position is of interest to self-directed individuals with 8+ years of experience. The individual will be expected to work independently on electrical automation design as an integrated member of an interdisciplinary design team. Responsibilities include the design of complete automation systems including PLC, HMI, AC/DC drive, high level personnel safety design, communication network selections and integration, participation in control panel design and generation of bill of materials, cabling, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning for commercial, industrial, institutional, public and private facilities.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8 years experience in electrical systems integration design.
  • A Degree /Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Technology. Current CET or P.Eng. designation strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a strong attention to detail are essential.
  • Experience with the application of the Canadian Electrical Code is an asset.
  • Experience with PLC and HMI selection and programming is a definite asset.
  • Experience with AC/DC drive selection and programming is a definite asset.
  • Experience with the design and understanding of high level safety circuits, suitable for personnel protection to EN954 and ISO13849, is a definite asset.
  • Experience with EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, DH+ and RIO communication networks is a definite asset.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC-5, SLC, RSView ME, PanelBuilder, and PowerFlex drive platforms is a definite asset.
  • Experience with control panel layout design will be beneficial in this role.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office will be beneficial in this role.
