Program Associate, State of the Salmon Portland, Oregon
Reports to: Deputy Director, State of the Salmon
The Organization The mission of Wild Salmon Center is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of wild salmon ecosystems across the Pacific Rim. We identify science-based solutions to sustain wild salmonids and the human communities and livelihoods that depend on them. Wild Salmon Center is an international organization based in the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center in Portland, Oregon.
The Program State of the Salmon (SoS – www.stateofthesalmon.org) works to improve management and conservation of wild salmon across the entire North Pacific. A key vision of the program has been to create international forums where salmon managers, scientists, and conservationists from watersheds across the Pacific Rim can learn from each other's successes and failures and work together to accelerate the adoption of science-based standards for wild salmon conservation. SoS also partners with international organizations to promote the adoption of practices for fisheries harvest and hatchery operations to ensure the sustainability of wild salmon populations.
The Position The Program Associate contributes to State of the Salmon’s mission by coordinating events such as workshops and conferences, and assisting staff in a variety of project based research and administrative needs. This individual will work closely with all SoS staff and report to SoS’ Deputy Director. The position is a temporary non-exempt position anticipated to average 30 hours per week, with the opportunity to become a regular full-time position eligible for benefits after a six month introductory period.
