The Director of Human Resources is a strategic partner to Water For People's senior management team taking our values and making Water For People a Great Place to Work. Based at Water For People’s headquarters in Denver, CO, the Director of Human Resources leads the development and implementation of Water For People's global human resources (HR) and administration strategy with the goal of building Water For People’s corporate culture with best in class employees and teams in all our offices worldwide.
KEY POSITION OBJECTIVES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Lead the development of global HR and administration strategy for the organization that builds on our core values;
- Build a global HR and administrative community across the organization that fosters learning and sharing of best practices;
- Manage and lead an HR and Admin team;
- Develop a global set of HR and administrative standards across the organization while respecting local laws and culture;
- Ensure the effective development and implementation of Water For People's HR policies and procedures that support high quality talent recruitment, engagement and retention of staff;
- Advise Water For People on equitable compensation and benefits, professional growth and career development opportunities throughout our offices worldwide;
- Ensure HR and administrative compliance globally;
- Build towards a paperless environment;
- Develop a set of key performance indicators and report out regularly;
- Design operational plans to support strategy implementation throughout Water For People, to include Recruitment, Hiring, Onboarding & Offboarding, Employee Relations, Staff Development & Training, Performance Management and succession planning;
- Advise the senior management team on significant HR plans, policies and trends;
- Prepare and administer the headquarters Core/HR budget and the HQ salary budgets in accordance with Water For People's overall financial policies and goals;
- Oversee the periodic updating and enhancement of global and local employee policies and handbooks;
- Develop HR capacity in the organization including leading and coaching the HR Department;
- Protect the interests of Water For People and its staff in relation to legal and regulatory requirements which impact on Water For People policies, programmes and employees;
- Develop an external network of HR contacts in partner organizations, share information and benchmarks with others.
KEY PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:
- Highly accountable with the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, collaborative team culture;
- Evidence of developing and championing people development policies, obtaining buy-in from senior management, and seeing policies through to implementation;
- Experience of developing senior and middle management within a clear succession framework;
- A working knowledge of HR best practice, processes and up to date management thinking in a global environment;
- Must have well-developed written, oral, interpersonal, and negotiation communication skills with a high degree of sensitivity for confidentiality;
- Must be strategic with an excellent sense of priority, logic and objectivity, highly organized and capable of handling a number of sensitive, confidential, and important issues simultaneously while responding to unanticipated developments;
- Flexible and able to coordinate multiple projects and meet tight deadlines; must be able to work overtime periodically;
- Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently, be creative, take initiative, and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills;
- Spend time coaching, reviewing performance and agreeing to clear goals;
- Identify high potential staff and emerging leaders and provide opportunities for them to develop;
- Ability to be a creative thinker, energetic, positive and demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership in this role;
- Ability to write, compile and/or edit materials
EDUCATION/FORMAL TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources management or related field required; Master's Degree preferred;
- Certification in Professional Human Resources (PHR®) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®); Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR®) certification is desired;
- More than 10 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in Human Resources;
- At least 7 to 10 years’ experience managing staff;
- Knowledge and expertise in compensation and benefits and the inter-relationships of rewards to competency and performance;
- Advanced computer proficiencies with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and HRIS administration experience;
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to developing countries, where travel is rugged;
