Job Description: 

Outreach Specialist

Bay Area (Contra Costa, San Mateo, Santa Clara Counties)

Summary

Ecology Action is engaged in a marketing, education and outreach effort to support utility Whole House Upgrade Programs (WHUP). The Outreach Specialist is part of a team of field staff engaging with homeowners, contractors, local government representatives and other stakeholders to successfully drive uptake in utility whole house programs and effect positive behavior change towards energy efficiency. The Outreach Specialist will assist the Program Manager in delivering appropriate community level outreach, education, technical assistance and customer support for the Whole House Upgrade Program. Ecology Action’s successful methodology is centered on community-based social marketing principles and the Outreach Specialist will help facilitate venues and events that fit that methodology such as workshops, webinars and participation in community awareness events. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, participate in and support the Energy Upgrade Specialists and Program Manager in County or regional outreach to homeowners, contractors, local government representatives and other key stakeholder groups
  • Support and participate in training and educational presentations
  • Coordinate, prepare, and staff outreach booth at events and during workshops and meetings
  • Demonstrate use of Energy Upgrade California web portal during awareness events and workshops; facilitate web portal enrollments and data entry
  • Assist with customer support, advocacy and technical assistance
  • Regularly confer with other EUC team members to effectively problem-solve, accelerate use of best-practices, or otherwise maintain and enhance program delivery
  • Facilitate stakeholder satisfaction/feedback information gathering
  • Represent Ecology Action at various meetings, events, workshops and related functions.
  • Follow direction from a Program Manager with respect to local delivery of the program in a manner that is consistent with program goals and objectives
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned to meet program goals.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in environmental education and outreach, construction, energy management, customer service or related fields
  • California Driver’s License
  • Current automobile insurance
  • Access to a laptop computer, peripherals, workspace, and a high-speed Internet connection at a home office; or a similar remote work location if required.

Required skills

Outreach Specialist must have demonstrated skills in the following areas:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Group presentation/public speaking skills
  • Comfortable functioning independently in a remote working arrangement
  • Comfortable working within a geographically dispersed team
  • Representing Ecology Action and the Whole House Upgrade Program professionally to the public
  • Experience with conservation, energy efficiency, water efficiency or similar program outreach, education and/or providing technical assistance
  • Sales, marketing, or demonstrated behavior change program success as outcomes of work experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office products

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with residential and/or commercial construction, green building, green jobs workforce development and similar practices, particularly those programs or practices within their particular County or Region
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies for residential and/or commercial use
  • General familiarity with regional and state environmental policy and building codes
  • Second language writing and speaking proficiency desired, especially but not limited to Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese and/or Russian
  • Direct green building, construction, energy efficiency, or marketing experience
  • General familiarity with environmental rebate and/or incentive programs such as utility rebates or California Solar Initiative

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear, and use a computer keyboard and monitor.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Employee will be required to drive to meetings and events on a regular basis.

Work Environment:  Generally, the work environment is an office or event setting. However, travel by driving may be required.  Driving an insured personal vehicle on company business is required (currently $.55/mile reimbursement).

Compensation:  Total compensation range is $58,500 to $65,531 annual salary (exempt). This is a full-time position subject to continued funding of Marketing, Education and Outreach programs.
