Job Description:  Overview:

Stantec is one of the largest employers of full-time, experienced environmental professionals in the eastern United States. Our current staff includes specialists in wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrology, forestry, habitat restoration, marine biology, environmental permitting, GIS and surveying. Our Environmental Services group is dedicated to managing environmental issues proactively and professionally and, as a result, State and Federal regulators have respect for Stantec scientists and their work. Responsibilities:

Stantec’s Environmental Services practice seeks a Project Manager to provide environmental permitting, project management, business development and other client services for natural resource projects located primarily in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Project management responsibilities include developing project proposals, managing projects and budgets, and performing and overseeing technical work. Environmental permitting responsibilities include identifying project-specific environmental permitting requirements, coordinating with resource agency personnel, writing and reviewing technical reports and environmental permit applications, presenting at public meetings, and facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, environmental policy or a related field.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible experience related to natural resource management, consulting, and/or environmental planning.
  • Project and budget management experience,
  • Experience with local, state and federal environmental permitting in Massachusetts and/or Connecticut, including experience with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, MESA, MEPA, CEPA, Chapter 91, Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act (and associated Massachusetts and Connecticut Water Quality Certification requirements), Connecticut DEEP permits, and NPDES permitting.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of humor, high ethical standards and a desire for team success.

Desired:

  • Background in the fields of wetland science, botany and/or wildlife biology.
  • Experience conducting wetland delineations and construction observation

The Project Manager will be a self starter who can work well with other disciplines and within a team. He or she will have the ability to translate scientific analysis and findings into readily understood lay terms and communicate effectively with regulators, the public, and other project stakeholders. Adaptability and attention to detail are important.
