Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include endangered species assessments, habitat restoration, wetland characterizations, and water resources management. Stantec's Burnaby office, is seeking an Intermediate Vegetation Ecologist to join our Terrestrial Ecosystem Team.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and conduct
    • Biological inventories with a focus on communities and species of concern that include rare species
    • Environmental impact assessments and pre-disturbance assessments
    • A variety of natural resource planning projects
  • Intermediate level project management
  • Data analysis and management
  • Report preparation
  • Client liaison
  • Supervision of interdisciplinary teams
  • Field work as required
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in a related discipline from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 5 years experience which must include some consulting experience
  • Experience with vegetation and EIA legislation and regulatory agencies (e.g. EUB, NEB, and CEAA)
  • Experience with local ecosystems
  • Botanical and vegetation inventory survey experience including taxonomy and species identification
  • Project management experience including budget tracking, cost estimating, schedule preparation, and invoice management
  • Experience leading or participating in Environmental Assessments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (publications should include peer reviewed technical papers and regulatory submissions)
  • Experience and skills in rare plants would be a definite asset
