Job Description: 

Conservation International (CI) is seeking an experienced Benefits Administrator to manage CI’s US employee benefits programs for an employee population of approximately 350 US-based staff within a global organization of nearly 1,000 staff. 

The Administrator will ensure compliance with related laws and regulations for a full suite of health and welfare and retirement programs.  S/he will communicate with CI’s benefits vendors, conduct benefits audits, pay benefits bills, and manage the US fringe benefits budget.  The Administrator will also manage leave and disability claims, and coordinate the Health Claims Review Committee and the 403b Investment Committee.  S/he will ensure that CI’s benefit plans are communicated appropriately to all staff and that all plan documentation is updated and maintained.  While this position is focused primarily on US benefits, the Administrator will manage our expat health and welfare plan, our International Retirement Savings Plan, and our global medical evacuation program.

Working with HR leadership, the Administrator will conduct research and analysis on benefit plan options and design.  S/he will coordinate the annual open enrollment, and provide benefits-related support to HR Services on new hires and terminations.

This position requires excellent communications skills as well as the ability to analyze data and contracts.  The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and providing support to both the HR team and our global staff.  The Administrator will report to the Senior Director of Global Operations Management and will be an integral member of the twelve-person Global HR team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health and Welfare Benefits Administration 

  • Conduct regular benefits audits, monitor claims, and take corrective action as appropriate.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment(s), and prepare communications materials for staff.
  • Develop working relationships with CI’s benefits vendors and brokers. Research and resolve employee claims issues with benefits vendors.
  • Ensure compliance of CI’s benefits with related laws and regulations as advised by broker and counsel.
  • Participate in benchmarking surveys, review results, and make recommendations for changes.
  • Participate in benefit renewals and recommend plan changes.
  • Manage and track all leave benefits (FMLA, LOA, STD, LTD, etc.).
  • Manage US and international workers compensation claims.
  • Manage International Retirement Savings Program and Int’l SOS program.
  • Prepare monthly benefits bills and manage employees’ benefits files.
  • Manage $10M US fringe pool budget.

403b Retirement Plan Administration

  • Conduct internal audits and take corrective action as appropriate.
  • Manage annual 5500 and audit process.
  • Manage all retirement communications and compliance notices.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Four year college degree and a minimum of 3 years of benefits experience.
  • Experience with health and retirement benefit plans.
  • Knowledge of US Federal and State employment laws (i.e. Title VII, ADA, FLSA, etc.).
  • Knowledge of employee benefits regulations such as ERISA, HIPAA, 5500 reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to interact with people of all different levels and backgrounds.
  • Ability to be proactive and take the lead is identifying and resolving issues. 
  • Excellent organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Experience with at least one HRIS.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Interest in CI’s mission and the non-profit sector.

Preferred:

  • Experience creating and distributing intranet and other communications content in an attractive, organized presentation.
  • Experience using Oracle HR, Taleo, and ADP.
