Job Description: 

Earthjustice is the legal backbone for the environment. Founded in 1971, we annually represent nearly 400 non-profit organizations for free in over 250 cases that promote a clean energy future, preserve our natural heritage, and safeguard our health.

The Development/Major Gifts Assistant works under the supervision of the Vice President of Development and supports both the VP in fundraising and management responsibilities as well as providing administrative support for the Major Gifts team.

The successful candidate must be a self‐starter who is able to work both collaboratively and independently and possesses strong interpersonal skills. The position requires excellent writing and analytical skills, and the ability to think creatively.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule meetings.
  • Support the VP’s fundraising efforts including scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, drafting briefings, and updating donor records.
  • Draft and proofread donor and board correspondence, reports, and proposals.
  • Prepare queries and reports from the donor database for cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, event and tracking purposes.
  • Assist with the preparation of major donor mailings and acknowledgements.
  • Frequent interaction with staff members within the organization; as well as board members and donors.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in Development (fundraising) or executive setting preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize assignments.
  • Superior communication skills, including demonstrated successful writing.
  • Meticulous attention to detail including excellent proofreading skills.
  • Professional, positive, and approachable attitude. Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people, including board of directors, donors, volunteers, the public and staff.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office. Database management skills required with ability to produce reports and to use advanced functions, including sophisticated knowledge of the Internet.
  • Experience with Powerpoint, Quark, or other desktop publishing programs desirable.
  • Background and/or interest in environmental and conservation issues desirable.
