About Green Mountain Farm-to-School Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) is a non-profit organization promoting the health and well being of Vermont's children, farms, and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education. In the 2012-13 academic year, GMFTS aims to serve 24 school communities in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont with school gardens, educational programming, and fresh local farm foods, benefiting over 5,000 students. Position Description
The primary responsibilities of the Nutrition and Agriculture Educator will be to develop, grow, present, and evaluate GMFTS’ educational programs, and provide general operational and administrative support. This is a full-time, year-long AmeriCorps position. The Educator reports to the Education Director.
The Educator will:
o Lead weekly 2-hour after-school programs at 5 school sites
o Lead in-class nutrition, agriculture workshops, taste tests, and farm field trips for students
o Develop lesson plans for programming
o Maintain school gardens
o Lead summer program activities for students and community members
o Plan, develop, and maintain educational materials
o Design and distribute outreach and publicity materials
o Collect, analyze, and report data for program evaluation
o Work as an independent member of a team of educators
o Provide general support to organization, as necessary
Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Strong interest in working with children, teaching (formal or non-formal) experience required Some knowledge of gardening and vegetable production needed Excellent organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing non-profit environment Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
Compensation
AmeriCorps members who complete their term of service in a full-time position will receive: A biweekly stipend totaling $12,200 for the year Health insurance, if not covered under another policy Child care, if necessary Student loan forbearance A $5,500 Education Award for past or future education Available housing SNAP Benefits Professional development, career mentoring, and strong work experience
