Farm-to-School Coordinator
Start-Date: August 20, 2012 Location: Newport, Vermont
About Green Mountain Farm-to-School Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) is a nonprofit organization promoting the health and wellbeing of Vermont's children, farms and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education. In the 2012-2013 academic year, GMFTS aims to serve 24 school communities in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont with school gardens, educational programming and fresh local farm foods, benefiting over 5,000 students. Position Description
The primary responsibilities of the Farm-to-School Coordinator will be to develop, grow, present and evaluate GMFTS’ Farm-to-School Network and provide general operational and administrative support. This is a full time year long AmeriCorps position. The Farm-to-School Coordinators report to the Farm-to-School Program Director.
The Farm-to-School Coordinator will: Develop and maintain partnerships with GMFTS schools, farms and other institutions Encourage local food purchasing by schools Schedule, develop, and deliver GMFTS educational programs and events including taste tests, farm field trips and in-class workshops with a nutrition and agriculture educator. Lead training workshops for food service staff and farmers Design and distributing outreach and publicity materials Collect, analyzing, and reporting data for program evaluation Maintain a database of school, farm and partner contacts Assist in after school programming as needed Develop programming and providing general support to organization, as necessary
Qualifications A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience Knowledge of local food systems and sustainable agriculture Experience working with children k-8. Excellent public speaking and writing skills Excellent organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing non-profit environment Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
Compensation: AmeriCorps Members who complete their term of service in a full time position will receive: Monthly SNAP benefits A biweekly stipend totaling $12,200 for the year Health insurance, if not covered under another policy Child care, if necessary Student loan forbearance A $5,550 Education Award for past or future education Available housing Career mentoring, professional development, and strong work experience
