Job Description:  Overview:

Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators.

We are currently recruiting for a new member to our Soil Science team, in our Victoria (Sidney), BC office. Our Soil Science team is part of a large group of soil scientists engaged in a wide range of activities including soil mapping, impact assessment, soil assessments for reclamation and soil ecological research.

Responsibilities:

This Junior to Intermediate level Soil Scientist will join a team that interacts directly with Vegetation and Reclamation team members as well as providing hands-on service to our clientele, working with engineers and planners on environmental assessments, primarily, in British Columbia and Yukon.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with large-scale soil assessment and mapping projects, from proposal development to project completion
  • Interacting and communicating effectively within multi-disciplinary highly-skilled teams
  • Ensuring QA/QC and H&S requirements and procedures are identified and followed throughout a project's life cycle
  • Data analysis, writing and preparation of reports, proposals and presentations
  • Conducting field work as required, including arranging logistics and coordinating staff

Contributing to preparation of final reports for mining, oil and gas, energy, and transmission and transportation sectors within the BC, Alberta and Yukon regulatory environment

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in soil science or related field with 3 to 5 years field experience; a M.Sc. in soil science or related field with 1 to 2 years field experience is preferred.
  • Experience in Environmental Assessments, and Pre-Disturbance Assessments of soils
  • Ability to design and conduct applied research projects
  • Fundamentals of statistical analysis of data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible team player, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks
  • Technical knowledge of terrain in British Columbia and of Terrain Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) processing would be an asset
