JDM Associates – an energy management and sustainability consulting firm specializing in real estate, located in Falls Church, VA – is seeking several highly-motivated, team-oriented professionals to provide sustainability and energy efficiency consulting services to commercial building owners and operators. JDM consultants review our clients’ properties, including office buildings and multifamily communities, to identify opportunities for enhancing sustainability and reducing natural resource consumption. Consultants then support clients to implement recommended improvements and analyze the results in terms of cost savings, energy use reductions, and other metrics. Minimum requirements for all positions include:
- At least four years of related professional experience (a wide range of experience levels will be considered)
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced, self-directed environment
- Proven analytical skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, and numerical reasoning
- Strong technical aptitude (a background in engineering or building science is preferred)
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and professional demeanor appropriate for work with corporate clients and team members
- Ability to articulate clear, persuasive messages to diverse audiences
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Proficient computer abilities, particularly with Microsoft Excel
- Ability to closely track projects and tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of high-quality deliverables
- Knowledge of sustainability topics specific to the real estate industry, primarily energy and water efficiency
- Experience with green building strategies and technologies for both existing buildings and new construction
- Knowledge and understanding of real estate and building operations
- A commitment to protecting the environment, with the ability and persistence to “sell” others on the value of sustainability
Property Consultant: The position may specialize in office, multifamily, or retail buildings, or may span multiple sectors. Property Consultants will:
- Gather data, research, evaluate, and write reports analyzing properties’ energy/water use and making recommendations to reduce resource consumption and costs
- Perform onsite walkthrough audits of commercial buildings to assess the condition and performance of current building systems.
- Develop assessment reports detailing audit observations, calculations of energy and water performance and recommendations for improving building efficiency. Calculate the financial and environmental results of property improvements
- Work with commercial property management teams to to gather operational and technical information and develop strategies for implementing opportunities identified during building audits.
- Coordinate with consulting team through the process of benchmarking and assessing the performance of domestic and international office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties.
- Conduct interviews with property management teams on areas energy usage. Examples would be HVAC equipment, lighting, water fixtures, waste management, and tenant behavior.
- Vet data provided by property management for benchmarking energy performance of properties in EPA’s Portfolio Manager.
