                          Looking for the type of exciting, outdoor, hands-on internships experience that puts you elbow deep in algae and knee deep in marsh mud? Searching for the opportunity to share and expand your knowledge and enthusiasm about the world we live in?!? Want to spend an incredible summer minutes from the beach and in a gorgeous coastal setting!

                          Adult and Family Program Assistants help to lead groups of all ages and teach a diverse array of topics that highlight the dynamic ecosystems of a barrier island. Program Assistants achieve valuable supervisory experience as they help to manage our high school intern and volunteer programs Program Assistants work alongside program staff to provide a diverse range of educational and scientific program experiences. Program Assistants will gain valuable and diverse knowledge regarding aquarium and field equipment use and maintenance, boat crew skills and boat safety, group leadership in laboratory and field settings, staff supervision, time management and marine husbandry.

                           Program activities are varied and may include kayaking and canoeing, nature hikes, marsh-mucking, boat trips, campfires, science labs, seining and trawling, skit nights, marine organism collection, astronomy field trip, water testing and sampling, island tours, etc.

 

Responsibilities

•           Assist the Special Programs Coordinator in leading Adult and Family Summer Programs

               •           Assist with planning and implementation of age appropriate program experiences with a variety

                            of activities.

•           Lead the participants through all daily activities, and help with additional tasks.

•           Alertly and actively interact with and supervise participants and give them undivided attention.

•           Preparation of pre-program materials and mailings

•           Office work, Registration, Group Check

•           Assist in the coordination of program locations, movement/transportation of program

             participants.

•           Set- up, take down, cleaning and organizing program areas

*Past assistants have used this position as an internship for college credit*

Requirements

•             Full-time college student or college graduate

  • Must have a degree or be working towards a degree in Education, Outdoor Recreation, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences or other relevant fields.

•             Ability to connect with, encourage, and direct participants of all ages.

•             Must be energetic, enthusiastic and motivational.

•             Ability to think fast, make decisions and enforce rules.

•             Must enjoy contact with people, putting into action the belief that first impressions are important with every personal contact.

•             Valid Driver’s License and submittal of recent Driving Record.

•             Current First Aid and CPR.

•             Friendly, creative, energetic personality.

•             Willingness to work long hours with program participants in various weather conditions.
