4 positions available $200 per week + room and board
Spend a summer working with children ages 10-18 while learning all about the coastal ecology of Virginia's Eastern Shore and gaining valuable program planning and supervisory experience. Summer camp interns are responsible for overnight and free-time supervision of campers. You'll organize daily educational and recreational free time activities, coordinate schedules with MSC Educators, and organize a weekly citizen science program. You'll also gain knowledge regarding aquarium and field equipment use and maintenance, boat crew skills and boat safety, and group leadership in field, lab, and dorm settings.
Responsibilities • Overnight and free time supervision of camp participants, including creating and organizing educational and recreational free time activities, escorting campers to meals and classes, and creating a safe and friendly dorm environment.
• Help coordinate and run camp check-in and check-out along with MSC Educators • Ensure that health, happiness and safety are a top priority at all times • Participation in camp events led by MSC Educational Staff as needed • Administering medications as needed • Occasional weekend duties • Help out during 2012 Association of Nature Center Administrator’s annual summit, Aug. 22-27.

• Ability to connect with, encourage, and direct participants of all ages. • Must be energetic, enthusiastic and motivational. • Ability to think fast, make decisions and enforce rules. • Must enjoy working with children and their parents, putting into action the belief that first impressions are important with every personal contact. • Valid Driver’s License and submittal of recent Driving Record. • Current First Aid and CPR (can be obtained on the job). • Friendly, creative, energetic personality. • Willingness to work long hours with program participants in various weather conditions.
