Job Description:  Overview:

Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include endangered species assessments, habitat restoration, wetland characterizations, and water resources management.

Responsibilities:

Stantec's Dartmouth, Nova Scotia office is currently seeking a Marine Biologist /Scientist

 

The successful candidate will work in a team environmental and will be responsible for contributing to environmental impact assessments and environmental permitting for a variety of clients.  He/she will also be responsible for proposal and report writing and presentations. Projects may include fish and fish habitat surveys, benthic habitat surveys, botanical and wildlife surveys and species at risk surveys.

Qualifications:

As the successful candidate, you will have a university degree in Science as well as a minimum of 5 years experience in conducting HADD, Environmental Effects Monitoring, comprehensive and screening level environmental impact assessments, preparing regulatory applications for approvals, and sound working knowledge of federal and provincial (NS ideally) environmental legislation.  Experience with designing and implementing field programs and managing field teams as well as the collection of baseline data is required.  Consulting experience would be an asset.

 

The preferred candidate will be self motivated and also possess the following attributes:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Experience with planning and collection of field data
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation capabilities with good statistical knowledge
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience working with the federal, provincial and municipal regulatory agencies
  • Strong project management skills
  • Willingness to travel
