Job Description: 

Biomimicry 3.8 (www.biomimicry.net) is the new social enterprise and certified B Corporation created in 2010 to expand and deliver the mission of the former Biomimicry Guild (a consultancy for bio-inspired design started in 1998) and Biomimicry 3.8 Institute (the not-for-profit education entity founded in 2005) as well as deliver a new suite of offerings of professional training and certification programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Biomimicry 3.8, headquartered in Missoula, Montana, seeks a Programs Administration Manager to manage and execute our emerging certificate and online education programs.  

Biomimicry 3.8 has created a suite of professional training programs, including online courses, workshops, an 8-month certificate program and a 2-year certificate program.  We started with a weeklong workshop in Costa Rica and the 2-year certificate program and over the course of the last year, the programs have been expanded to include the first online course, 3-day workshops, and the 8 month certificate program as well as the programmatic organization and infrastructure.  

The role of the Programs Administration Manager will be entrepreneurial in spirit and is primarily intended to continue to innovatively and sustainably grow the revenue potential of the program in support of Biomimicry 3.8’s organizational mission:

“Biomimicry 3.8 trains, connects, and equips a global network of biomimicry leaders and innovators who transform the world by emulating nature’s designs and core principles .”

This position will oversee the educational training & certification programs’  business and administration in its entirety, including strategic business planning, managing budgets, schedules, contracts, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services, including managing the human, financial and physical resources of the program.

 

The ideal Programs Manager candidate will have demonstrated financial management and analytical skills, have outstanding systems thinking skills, value collaboration, be fast paced and flexible, and have a proven ability to anticipate the evolving needs and opportunities of a rapidly growing program.  The ideal candidate will also have a rich history in sustainability, innovation and/or education.  Candidates with training/understanding in biomimicry are strongly preferred.

This position requires an individual who is comfortable and excited about working in a dynamic environment with professionals from multiple disciplines including science, design, engineering, and business. Biomimicry 3.8’s staff of 27 is distributed across offices in Missoula, Bozeman, Helena and Stevensville, MT, New York, NY, Amherst, MA, Mexico City, Mexico and Yosemite Nat’l Park and Berkeley, CA, and liaises with entities and individuals around the globe.

RESPONSIBILITIES


General Program Management

Report to the Biomimicry 3.8’s Management and Leadership teams

Manage the program’s annual financial plans and schedule for the online courses, workshops and certificate programs

Manage programmatic resource allocation in support of the program as well as organization success, including contract management for all program service providers and instructors

Marketing and promotion oversight and implementation (as needed)

Manage program sponsors

Coordinate with the Biomimicry Regional Affiliates

Identify opportunities for internal and external collaborations and strategic alignments


Online Courses

Manage business planning for internal and external course development and maintenance, including staff time, contracts, marketing, online course infrastructure

Set annual course development targets, including revenue projections and market demands

Manage bulk purchasing of key organizational clientele


Workshops

Identify workshop opportunities and determine feasibility, including customers, pricing, timing, and resources available to execute the workshop

Event planning coordination with in-house event planner

Manage budgets for workshops, including projected and actual costs and revenue

Leverage key workshop partnerships, including Biomimicry Regional Affiliates, clients and venues

Manage the Intellectual Property of the workshop materials


Certificate Programs

Coordinate directly with certificate program instructors 

Manage the business planning of the certificate programs, including scholarship funds, costs and revenue, and resource allocation

Event planning coordination with in-house event planner


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Training in or familiarity with biomimicry strongly preferred

History of working within the sustainability, innovation and/or education industries

Minimum 5 years experience of management-level experience, event management experience a plus

Experienced with MS Office and web-based management tools

Experienced and comfortable working with a remote and global team

Minimum undergraduate degree, advanced degree preferred

US Citizenship or Green Card required


Compensation and Benefits:

Creative compensation package includes base salary, bonuses, health insurance, HSA, profit sharing, flextime, and 401K. Starting salary is commensurate with experience, and has high potential with company growth.
