Minnesota Waste Wise is a non-profit 501(c)(3) affiliate program of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. Minnesota Waste Wise promotes sustainable business practices to help businesses save money through waste reduction, resource conservation and energy efficiency. Through our programs and consulting services, Minnesota Waste Wise provides leadership to assist businesses with environmental sustainability programs and initiatives. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Waste Wise Business Outreach Specialist is responsible for a broad range of duties with a focus on servicing our clients and achieving our mission to help businesses conserve resources and save money. Important core components of this position include business recruitment, scheduling site visits, providing consulting assistance via email and phone, and following up to identify businesses who have implemented recommendations. This position supports the Waste Wise Business Services Coordinator and Program Director and can include a variety of other supporting tasks to the core components mentioned above. SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Engage identified Minnesota businesses through in person and other direct contact networking. 2. In conjunction with Program Director and Business Services Coordinator, research and identify outreach targets. 3. Provide phone/email assistance to businesses on environmental sustainability issues, mostly including solid waste reduction and recycling. 4. Maintain accurate records of business participation and update database with program results. 5. Create monthly outreach, program service and other activity reports as needed. 6. Effectively communicate to businesses on environmental sustainability issues and opportunities, such as waste reduction, recycling and overall conservation. 7. Coordinate and conduct program research ensuring that staff has ready access to reliable and accurate information. Update and maintain research database as needed. 8. Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Waste Wise Program Director. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. 3+ years experience working with business environmental sustainability issues, with a particular focus on solid waste reduction and recycling opportunities, industry, cost structures. 2. Bachelor’s degree with related coursework that includes environmental sustainability, such as environmental studies, business, communications, or related. 3. Proficiency with data management tools including Salesforce and Excel. 4. Strong oral and written communication skills. 5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. 6. Strong research background with the ability to accurately gather relevant information and communicate appropriately and effectively to relevant audience. 7. Able to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously. 8. Vehicle required for travel, will be reimbursed for mileage. Must pass motor vehicle records check. RELEVANT INFORMATION: This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, one-year temporary position that will end Dec. 31, 2012. The position includes benefits and may involve some travel within the Twin Cities. The position reports to the Waste Wise Program Director.
