The Environmental Law and Policy Center (ELPC), the Midwest’s leading environmental advocacy and eco-business innovation organization, seeks to hire a Major Gifts Manager to work full-time out of our Chicago office. This position reports to ELPC’s Director of Development and is responsible for helping to identify and then meet with, cultivate and raise money from major donors and closely-held family foundations. ORGANIZATION: ELPC is the Midwest’s leading public interest environmental legal advocacy and eco-business innovation organization, and among the nation’s leaders. We develop and lead successful strategic environmental advocacy campaigns to improve environmental quality and protect our natural heritage. We are public interest environmental entrepreneurs who engage in creative business deal making with diverse interests to put into practice our belief that environmental progress and economic development can be achieved together. ELPC’s multidisciplinary staff of 45 talented public interest attorneys, environmental business specialists, policy advocates, and communications specialists brings a strong and effective combination of skills to solve environmental problems and improve the quality of life in our communities. ELPC’s headquarters is in Chicago, along with offices in Columbus, OH, Des Moines, IA, Jamestown, ND, Minneapolis, MN, Madison, WI, Sioux Falls, SD, and Washington D.C. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Major Gifts Manager works closely with ELPC’s Development Team and Executive Director to build upon ELPC’s major donor base and increase contributions. This job includes the following tasks: (1) Identifying potential major donors for solicitation; (2) Developing and implementing individualized strategies to deepen relationships between ELPC and current/prospective major donors; and (3) Direct solicitation of donations with results achieved. The position requires some evening/weekend work and willingness to travel across ELPC’s Midwest/Great Plains region. QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree is required, advanced degree preferred. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in direct solicitation of major gifts, a clear track-record of success in obtaining major gifts, and an active network of connections within communities of wealth. The successful candidate will have smarts and savvy, an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for ELPC’s environmental mission and vision. He/she must be able to work productively with a team of skilled professionals in a fast-paced deadline-driven organization where results are important.
