Responsibilities:

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated Junior Surface Water Resources Engineer/Technologist in our Kitchener office. As the successful candidate, you will use your technical abilities to complete the surface water resources component(s) of a wide variety of projects in a dynamic design team setting. You will report directly to the Project Manager or Team Lead and will have primarily design responsibilities. Other responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking the detailed studies, modeling and design tasks associated with stormwater management works, Subwatershed Plans, floodplain delineation/management analyses, erosion control studies, and stream restoration projects
  • Coordinating with engineers, technical staff and/or team members in urban development, environmental services, transportation and other disciplines to ensure that the projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner
  • Completing field assignments including the monitoring of surface water systems and features, drainage system surveys, etc.
  • Following the process for obtaining approvals from various agencies
  • Researching issues related to surface water resources that impact individual projects
  • Writing reports and design briefs to document analyses
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of your written, technical and graphic work, and for completing work on-time and on-budget
Qualifications:

As the ideal candidate, you hold or a Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental, or Civil Engineering or Civil Technology Diploma and up to 5 years’ related experience. Ideally, you are a self-motivated individual possessing strong interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. You should be able to work in a team environment and have a commitment to thrive in a proactive organization where client service is second to none. A strong knowledge of municipal and urban development design will be considered an asset. In addition, you possess a working knowledge of various software packages for the planning and design of facilities (e.g., SWMHYMO, HEC-RAS).
