Overview: Our Transportation group provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for all phases of airports and aviation, bridge, rail, roadway, and transit projects. The ongoing success of our team allows you to set the pace of your career. Responsibilities: - Perform medium to complex cost estimates and analysis for capital projects.
- Responsible for reviewing project drawings, technical specifications, and general conditions to determine scope of construction work to bid.
- Prepare takeoff and cost estimates for assigned discipline of a project coordinated by lead estimator.
- Help to evaluate scope of work, means and methods, and other factors impacting scope from bid documents.
- Prepare quote solicitations for material and subcontracts for review or implementation by Coordinating Estimator.
- Assist in analyzing costs of alternative designs and construction methods.
- Evaluate medium complex to complex quotes, bids, change orders, value engineering reports, and claims for accuracy and completeness of stated costs.
- Analyzes cost reports and prepares cost comparisons for review or implementation by Coordinating Estimator. Incorporates production and pricing decisions into the estimate.
- Prepares detailed material take-offs using industry's latest software.
- Accumulate pricing documents, historical and vendor cost data for the development of cost estimating deliverables.
- Conduct construction/project site visits gathering relevant information to be used in producing cost estimates; ensure that the information gathered is recorded and included with final project estimate.
- Receive, organize and compile drawings and other documents issued for bid.
Qualifications: - MUST HAVE A Minimum of 7+ years of heavy-civil construction field experience to include: Bridge, Highway AND Corps of Engineer, Caltrans Work estimates
- MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE MUST HAVE BEEN IN ESTIMATING AT LEAST 4 YEARS
- Experience must include estimating public works highway/transit projects in excess of $20M
- Experience must include estimating on design build projects
- Experience working on retail or residential development projects is not acceptable
- Experience using major estimating software packages preferred (i.e. HCSS, Timberline, PlanSwift, etc.)
- Experience in preparing Agency's Independent Cost Estimate (ICE) with detailed audit trails, (i.e. backups of production, labor, material and equipment)
- Experience in understanding, interpreting, and application of laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and contracts.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical topics both verbally and in writing
- Experience in conducting research on pricing, escalation, manufacturing methods and construction planning
- Ability to read and understand specifications, drawings, or blueprints
- Ability to develop construction labor rates with all fringe benefits, payroll taxes and insurance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related field
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required
