Job Description: 

The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) unites communities to save coral reefs. CORAL provides education, tools, and inspiration to help local communities become passionate environmental stewards of the reefs. Together, we develop well-managed marine protected areas and sustainable businesses to benefit coral reefs and people.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Director of Finance is directly responsible for all financial, accounting, human resources, technology, and other administrative functions of our organization.The position will report to the Executive Director and is an integral leader of the Coral Reef Alliance, contributing to the strength, growth, and long-term development of the organization.

IDEAL CANDIDATE DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate will have two critical elements: (1) a passion for the mission of the Coral Reef Alliance, inclusive of a belief in the future direction and long-term priorities and goals of our organization, and (2) a strategic vision for the finance, accounting, and administrative areas of the organization as they are aligned with the organization's values and long-term direction.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead our annual organization budgeting process, resulting in a balanced budget that tells the financial "story" of our organization - a clear financial plan that is consistent with the organization's strategic programs, goals, and initiatives
• Oversee the organization's financial accounting systems and functions (including A/R, A/P, Payroll, and Tax), maintaining internal fiscal controls - resulting in a clean annual audit, in full compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
• Generate monthly financial statements and ongoing financial analysis so that organizational decisions can be made based on our financial position
• Communicate financial information to staff and field contractors
• Partner with the Executive Director to report financial status to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors
• Ensure that our day-to-day cash flow and cash projections are strong, that we effectively manage our line of credit, and that the organization continues to strengthen its overall cash position and net assets
• Oversee financial aspects of grant development and execution, including ensuring that we are in compliance with all administrative and financial aspects of our grants and donations
• Review all contracts and subcontracts to ensure the interests of CORAL are appropriately represented
• Manage our general insurance policies and contracts, ensuring appropriate and cost-effective coverage
• Manage and refine CORAL's human resources functions, including compensation and benefits, training and recruiting, and performance evaluation
• Manage IT operations, including supervising contract staff
• Oversee administrative functions and facilities, to ensure efficient and consistent operations
• Supervise part-time accountant

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or equivalent experience
• At least five years experience in a financial and administrative leadership position in a nonprofit environment and as a member of senior management teams
• High personal and professional integrity
• Excellent supervisory skills, and strong, demonstrated facilitative leadership skills
• Experience and ability to work independently, as well as with and across all levels of management and line staff
• Strong analytical skills
• Experience and ability to influence and collaborate in a diverse and cross-functional workplace
• Experience and ability to identify stakeholders' needs/concerns and provide proactive solutions
• Excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
