Responsibilities:

Stantec's Oil & Gas group is currently seeking a Piping Designer in our Calgary Office.

The successful candidate will be required to perform and be accountable for all drafting duties (outlined below) on assigned project work. You will focus on scope management, schedule management, project execution and design as well as discipline-to-discipline interface/coordination.

The successful candidate must be able to take a leadership role to manage larger conventional and SAGD projects independently yet be able to be an active member of the design team. The Senior Designer will also be expected to contribute to the overall improvement of the design off by participating in the development and improvement of standards and procedures.

Our Project Team offers services for all phases of the Project Life Cycle, from pre-project planning through detailed design, construction and commissioning, operations, to decommissioning.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Managing and executing multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Responsible for communicating project deliverables and expectations to the project/design team.
  • Coordinating multiple projects to maintain cost and schedule expectations.
  • Ongoing and proactive communication with Discipline Supervisor regarding project status and deliverables.
  • Ensure that all projects conform to client specifications, codes and standards. Participate in discipline QA/QC process
  • Proactively work with document control to maintain project issue dates
  • Support company HSE initiatives.
  • Prepare technical project drawings as required to meet project scope and deliverables.
  • Mentor piping design team members.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working with operating facilities, owner organizations and EPCM firms
  • Prefer experience within conventional gas plants, well site, batteries, pipeline and/or SAGD facilities.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively: written, spoken, and interpersonal
  • Strong ability to organize and plan: computer literacy, time management, project planning and project deliverables
  • Strong Skills in drafting and design fundamentals
  • Sound understanding of engineering design principles and design codes
  • Ability to multitask, in both capacities of handling multiple jobs/projects, and be able to carry out multiple tasks and scalability within each project
  • Must be familiar with the following design software:
    • AutoCAD
    • ProCAD
    • CadWorx Pro and/or AutoPLANT
    • IsoGen
    • Naviswork
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Must be proficient with the development of PFD’s, P&ID’s, Plot Plans, General Arrangements and Isometrics.
  • Must be a self starter and motivated
  • Must be growth orientated (both personal, and company growth focused)
  • Should be willing to receive and provide direction
  • Should approach things in a positive manner and be a team player
  • Should be willing to travel from time to time
  • Should be available for full time (40 hrs/wk minimum)
  • Should have developed skills that are ready for use at some level immediately
