Job Description: 

MD Environmental Service is hiring a Communications Specialist to work for the MD Department of Natural Resources offices in Annapolis. The position will provide assistance to the MD DNR Fisheries Service with the webpage content and management, graphic design and stakeholder communications. Services will include, but are not limited to: the development of posters and publications, updating time sensitive information such as calendars, stocking schedules, meeting notices and agendas, press releases, public notices, and media advisories. In addition, services will include: tracking logs, social media, and customer service requests (providing email responses). Qualified applicants should be proficient with html/asp coding and graphic design along with related Adobe suite of software products. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Conducts activities designed to create and maintain a favorable public image for
Maryland Environmental Service and works in the Communications Division to help
create effective internal communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Update website and intranet site, work with respective subject matter experts to assure all
website content is consistent and current
Write and edit materials (newsletter, media advisories, basic news releases), as required;
researches and understands MES projects in order to write copy for internal and external
audiences.
Attend and assist with agency events and conferences.
Provide basic planning and tactics supporting corporate events and campaigns such as
Maryland Charity Campaign and volunteer events.
Assist in the production of agency publications.
Organize and monitor photo library and client lists.
Provide administrative support to the department as needed; performs other work-related
duties as assigned.
Emergency response coordinator responsible for providing administrative support
including broad email distributions and website updates during an emergency. SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications from four-year college or university;
or combination of education and communications experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to quickly produce quality written communications, vary writing style to meet the
needs of the audience and be able to take large amounts of information and communicate
it in a concise and understandable manner.
Ability to manage competing demands, be adaptable to meet both internal and external
client needs and be comfortable representing the Agency in public settings.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Internet, FrontPage, Adobe Creative Suite
experience is a plus.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

Valid driver's license with less than 6 points under MD law.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to talk, hear,
sit, walk, reach with ands and arms, use hands and fingers.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision,
Peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
