Position Title: Director of Education Job Overview: Responsible for developing and managing the Ashokan Center’s educational programs and activities. Position Details: Full time, exempt; eligible for standard benefits. Reports to Ashokan Center Executive Director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Develop and implement educational and programmatic goals, curriculum and content, promoting environmental and experiential learning · Develop thematic, contemporary programs of weekend, week-long, seasonal, and annual duration which reflect and expand the Ashokan Center’s curriculum and educational goals · Recruit, hire, train, and manage program staff; develop team management practices which encourage development and retention of talented and dedicated program staff · Create, develop and strengthen partnerships with individuals, schools, agencies and organizations which will support, enhance and strengthen Ashokan programs, and leverage Ashokan facilities and educational mission · Develop programs and activities which generate earned income, and/or generate and attract grant funding · Work with development team to establish a fundraising base · Create and manage program budget · Work with marketing personnel to create appropriate and effective marketing materials, assisting with preparing content, identifying target audiences and media, and developing marketing strategy · Develop and implement program evaluations, metrics, and data about the effectiveness of Ashokan’s educational programs Required Skills and Qualifications: · Master’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience · Experience teaching a curriculum with an environmental or experiential learning component · Experience developing curricula with an environmental or experiential learning focus · Experience in a management/supervisory role · Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in a leadership role with colleagues and staff; experience in group facilitation preferred · Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, manage projects and achieve positive results · Strong oral and written communication skills · Business and budget management experience preferred · Able to work collaboratively in a small office setting, and assist with program and facility needs outside of job description as needed and with a positive attitude · Valid driver’s license; available for regular work hours Monday through Friday, some evenings and weekends Work Environment and Physical Demands: · The duties of this job require the employee to work in an indoor office setting, outdoors and exposed to year-round weather conditions, and offsite in indoor and outdoor settings. · While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, hear, and operate a computer and other office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk ungraded trails on uneven outdoor terrain, and to lift/move light loads. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
