With Stantec's current client base and the recent development for growth in Oil & Gas projects, we currently have an opportunity for a Project Controls - Cost Estimator in our Calgary SE (59 Ave SE) office.

Responsibilities:

The Project Controls - Cost Estimator is required to overlook and be accountable for all Cost Estimating duties on assigned projects.

The successful candidate will focus on project cost estimating, coordination of the project overall cost control integration as well as all aspects of progress measurement.

This is a key role within Stantec that is required to provide support to the project discipline team and/or project engineering team. This position will contribute in building the project controls team and assisting in company development/initiatives, with the opportunity for future promotion.

Our Project Team offers services for all phases of the Project Life Cycle, from pre-project planning through detailed design, construction and commissioning, operations, to decommissioning.

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Collaborate in the application of project control standards
  • Support project team and engineering teams in cost estimating, coordinating, creation and maintenance of cost estimates on assigned projects
  • Evaluate cost variances using proven analytical skills
  • Provide consultation to project and engineering teams, clients and subcontractors in cost estimating.
  • Ensure that all cost estimating, and problem analysis activities comply with company and client requirements​
  • Build cost estimate databases based on current data and experience.
  • Evaluate current industry conditions that could influence short- and long-term cost trends for materials, equipment and skilled/​unskilled labour.
  • Review of project documentation prior to issue for scope and presentation, including checks for technical accuracy
  • Other general project support tasks to complete work, including customer specific requirements
  • Ensure codes and standards (both legislated and customer-specific) are being met
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of project controls experience including cost estimating within the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Degree or Diploma related to Engineering or Business Administration
  • It is preferred to have combined experience in estimating, however we will consider candidates with strong skills in one area and the willingness to develop in the other.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively: written, spoken, and interpersonal
  • Strong ability to organize and plan: computer literacy, time management, project planning and project deliverables
  • Strong Skills of project controls theory, principles and concepts: Planning, Scheduling and Cost Estimating
  • Proficient in MS Project, scheduling software and MS Office Suite
  • Sound understanding of Project Management Principles
  • Ability to multitask, in both capacities of handling multiple jobs/projects, and be able to carry out multiple tasks and scalability within each project
  • Must be a self starter and motivated
  • Must be growth orientated (both personal, and company growth focused)
  • Should be willing to receive and provide direction
  • Should approach things in a positive manner and be a team player
  • Should be available for full time (40 hrs/wk)
  • Should be willing to travel
  • Should have developed skills that are ready for use at some level immediately
  • Would prefer an understanding of consulting business drivers and models
