TWO ¾ TIME CONSERVATION EDUCATOR POSITIONS FOR IMMEDIATE HIRE: The Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute (CGEI) is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit dedicated to environmental, place-based education in the Columbia River Gorge. Through a series of programs, we aim to instill a “sense of place” into students through interactive lessons, handson activities, instructive games, and performing meaningful scientific research. Job duties: As a conservation educator, your responsibilities will be varied and changing with seasonal programmatic demands. A sample of duties includes: • Teaching ecology-based lessons for fifth graders (the SECRETS program) • Volunteer recruitment and management • Assist with conservation biology projects for middle school students • Tabling at various events around the Gorge, which involves engaging kids in activities as well as speaking with community members about CGEI • Providing assistance to our various partners as needed, including the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife and the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, among others • Creating materials and curriculum as needed as part of our constant effort to improve our programs • Be able to work occasional evenings and weekends Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in education, ecology, environmental science, or related field • Ability to pass a criminal background check • Effective communication skills with all ages and diverse audiences • Ability to work in a group or on your own • Physical fitness for outdoor work • Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation. • Personal vehicle is required for some outings, with reimbursement provided • 21 years of age or older, at beginning of service term. • U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. • Regular and reliable attendance • Sense of humor PO BOX 1104 203 Second Street Hood River, Oregon 97031 T 541.387.2274Preferred Qualifications: • Interest in ecology and respect for nature • Desire to inspire interest in the natural world in others. • Experience working with children and adults in the classroom or outdoors. • A natural sciences, environmental or education background. • Excellent research and writing skills. • Other useful skills, knowledge, and experience: office administration, conversational Spanish, curriculum development, marketing, volunteer supervision, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. • Creativity and artistic ability a plus $9.50/hour This is a ¾ time position (30 hrs/week) with the possibility of full time hours on a seasonal basis.
