Earthjustice has an immediate need for an attorney to work on litigation related to new and existing coal plants and the promotion of clean energy. The ideal candidate would have extensive litigation experience, preferably related to coal plants. The attorney will work with other Earthjustice attorneys to develop and pursue strategic litigation in federal and state courts and administrative bodies including public utility commissions. The attorney must be admitted to practice law in a US jurisdiction, and admission to the state bar will be required within the first year. The attorney will be based preferably in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cleveland, or Detroit. As this attorney will handle work in Pennsylvania and the Midwest, the position may entail significant travel. Applicants for the position should have strong academic credentials, excellent research and writing skills, at least 5-7 years of litigation experience, and an ability to think strategically about legal advocacy needs and opportunities. Applicants should have a strong work ethic and sense of initiative, sound judgment, ability to work independently, and an ability to work well in a collegial setting. A demonstrated commitment to public interest law is preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits are excellent.
