The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) was founded in 1972 with the purpose of preserving important attributes of the Northern Piedmont region of Virginia. Those key attributes are the open spaces, natural viewsheds, historic features, agricultural activity and the clean air and water that make living, working and visiting the region so special. Protecting these attributes, while recognizing the importance of economic vitality, has always been, and remains our core organizational goal. Areas of Responsibility The Outreach Coordinator will promote the organization's mission and programs by engaging directly with citizens, students, community groups and partner organizations. The Outreach Coordinator will assist in meeting two of the goals outlined in the PEC Strategic Plan --1) increasing positive awareness of PEC and building support for PEC programs and 2) building a network of reliable activists and donors. The Outreach Coordinator is expected to: Develop and manage a PEC volunteer program. Organize low-cost outreach events (movie screenings, hikes, tours, lunches, etc) and workshops that are led or sponsored by PEC. Serve as a PEC representative at PEC events, as well as community and partner events. Create, manage and maintain a toolkit of materials for tabling at events throughout the Piedmont that can be used by staff and volunteers Organize and manage the PEC Fellowship Program -- a seven week summer program offering college-aged students experiential education in our environmental work related to land conservation, land use and agriculture.
