Job Description: 

The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) was founded in 1972 with the purpose of preserving important attributes of the Northern Piedmont region of Virginia. Those key attributes are the open spaces, natural viewsheds, historic features, agricultural activity and the clean air and water that make living, working and visiting the region so special. Protecting these attributes, while recognizing the importance of economic vitality, has always been, and remains our core organizational goal.

Areas of Responsibility

This staff member is primarily responsible for the procurement and management of foundation and government grants through the following process:

  • Use PEC's membership database to research current and past supporters.
  • Consult staff, board, and online resources to identify relevant foundation and government grant programs.
  • Identify PEC projects that match grant requirements and track submission deadlines.
  • Collaborate with PEC staff to develop and submit letters of inquiry, pre-proposals, and/or full proposals with required financial information.
  • Track all pending proposals until declined or approved.
  • Assist accounting department in allocating pending and received funds.
  • Submit required reports and payment requests, and ensure receipt of all awarded grant funds.
  • Maintain online and paper files of foundation and government prospects, proposals submitted, grant awards, and reports submitted.
  • Assist with PEC special events and public outreach activities as requested.

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years experience in fundraising/development. An emphasis on grants management, particularly the procurement and stewardship of public grants, is preferred. Demonstrated success in securing grants and experience in writing grant proposals and stewardship reports is preferable. Thorough knowledge of generally accepted development practices and sources of public funding for conservation-related projects. Proficiency in computer systems and MS Office software is required. Knowledge of Razor's Edge software a plus. General knowledge of PEC's mission and work is helpful.

Compensation
Salary negotiable depending on experience.
