Our Buildings Engineering group specializes in the design and development processes unique to buildings. Working closely with our clients, our dedicated professionals help to establish and understand the specific needs of a range of building projects. For both public and private sector clients, we provide unique plan checking capabilities as well as energy engineering and performance engineering services, covering each of the major engineering disciplines - structural, mechanical and electrical. Responsibilities:

An immediate opportunity exists in our Edmonton office for a Senior Electrical Power Designer to provide technical support to the power design group in developing working drawings and detailed technical specifications on projects.  Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Complete coordination studies using computer software.
  • Complete Arc flash studies using computer modeling software.
  • Complete computer assisted grounding studies; sizing, specifying grounding systems for various commercial buildings and systems.
  • Assess existing power distribution system installations and prepare technical evaluation reports. 
  • Prepare working drawings.
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing technical specifications relative to power distribution systems, grounding, mechanical motor i, etc.
  • Coordinate design work with other disciplines, offices and project team members.
  • Provide load calculations on various buildings.
  • Sizing and specifying of power distribution components including switchgear for medium and low voltage systems.
  • Ensure adherence to established project budgets, deadlines and deliverables. 
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years of general design experience, including power distribution and generator design for commercial and institutional buildings.
  • Familiar with SKM softwares (PTW-32 & Ground Mat) plus OTI's ETAP suite of products.
  • Understanding of the principals involved in preparing construction documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Working knowledge of commercial design practices and construction methods.
  • LEED accreditation will be an asset.
