Job Description:  Overview:

Our Industrial Buildings and Facilities group offers services for all phases of the project life cycle, from pre-project planning through detailed design, construction and operations to decommissioning. As Prime Consultants on projects, our Practice Area collaborates with technical staff throughout the Stantec organization to provide overall leadership and direction in bringing creative, innovative and integrated solutions to meet our Client’s needs.

 

Our Practice Area is a diverse group of 180 Project Managers, Engineers, Architects, Industrial Planners and Technologist team members, across Canada, specializing in the functional programming, planning and design of buildings and infrastructure needs for clients within the Food & Beverage, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul and National Defence sectors.  Some of our projects include: food warehousing and distribution centres, heavy vehicle and transit maintenance facilities, aircraft hangars, office buildings and other light industrial projects.

Responsibilities:

Our downtown Vancouver office has a new opportunity for a Junior /Intermediate Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer, who has an interest in the design of light industrial facilities and is interested in functional planning and layouts of industrial projects. The successful EIT /P.Eng. would interact with the shop users, develop the process flow and adjacency diagrams, determine the future requirements, determine the spaces and areas of the spaces, determine the industrial equipment and furniture requirements, layout the facility on the site, layout the equipment within the facility and prepare the industrial equipment procurement specifications for the operations.  Our team demonstrates a commitment to thrive in a team-oriented, proactive organization where client service is of highest priority.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Structural Engineering with at least two years’ experience in manufacturing/industrial facilities
  • Knowledge of Lean/IE principles
  • Ability to collect data on site and assimilate the data into space and facility layouts
  • Some experience in the specification of industrial/processing equipment and furniture is beneficial
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills and people management ability required in working with clients and analyzing their requirements, communicating with shop staff and construction personnel as well as coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering and CAD team project efforts
  • Excellent ability in writing clear and articulate reports
  • Knowledge of building design and construction
  • Some project management and/or LEED®  experience is an asset
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2008 and more current versions is important
  • Experience with MS Access, Excel and Project, and Visio software
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or P.Eng. with APEGBC, or the credentials to register as an EIT or P.Eng. with APEGBC
  • Must be able to travel out-of-town frequently (at times even for a week). Must be able to travel within Canada and US
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
