The senior position of Accounting Manager reports to the Director of Finance. Primary responsibility will be supervision and performance of general ledger activities and reconciliations in a nonprofit environment. Part of this responsibility includes supervision of the accounting associate and accounting intern. Secondary responsibilities include becoming knowledgeable of each functional area of accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reporting) to enable the individual to provide support to the Director of Finance and back up support as the need arises.
The Accounting Manager will:
- Perform/supervise review and posting of all accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts, and general journal entry transactions.
- Perform/supervise reconciliation of all balance sheet general ledger accounts including bank and investment account reconciliations.
- Serve as primary backup for payroll processing.
- Assist program staff in the development of proposal budgets and supporting documentation.
- Assist Director of Finance with monthly book close, project team financial reporting, and preparing financial statements.
- Perform/lead special emphasis projects such as critical programs invoicing.
- Assist/lead preparation of grant or contract periodic financial reporting.
- Assist in management of the annual financial statement and A-133 audit.
- Provide guidance to staff to ensure compliance with internal procedures and policies.
- Manage and update finance forms and procedures.
- Lead in maintaining integrity of the accounting system and processes as relates to GAAP.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, 5 yrs. Progressive experience within the functional areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger; non-profit, government-funded organization experience a plus. Demonstrated knowledge or ability to research and understand FAR, OMB A-122, and Federal Travel regulations. Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills are desired. MS Office skills required and experience with accounting software; Deltek COSTPOINT experience is a plus. Experience with preparation of audit schedules and familiarity with OMB A-133 audits desired.
