Our Environmental Services group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. We provide integrated, multidisciplinary services to identify and assess liabilities and risks, and to develop solutions to site management, remediation, and mitigation. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources management, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, information management, environmental monitoring, in-situ/ex-situ remedial design and implementation, human health and ecological risk assessments, air quality permitting and reporting, pipeline compliance, stormwater permitting and planning, and audit support services . Our Winnipeg office is seeking a GIS Specialist to provide leadership for environmental mapping projects, and to provide GIS technical support (i.e., analytical, cartographic and database management) specific to various GIS projects and program support needs.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will primarily be, but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement GIS projects and products in consultation with staff and external clients to meet user needs
  • Lead or participate in project teams providing GIS support
  • Identifying, gathering, analyzing, and integrating spatial data from internal or external sources
  • Creating maps and graphs for presentations, technical papers, or reports
  • Maintaining and updating GIS data to support the program
  • Compilation of metadata and other documentation
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following: 

  • College diploma in geomatics or a related field; or a degree in Geography (Geographic Information Systems) with some educational background in environmental science (preferably ecology/natural resources)
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience using ERSI GIS (ArcGIS) software including experience with:
  • ArcGIS desktop and associated extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, ArcHydro)
  • Problem-solving, statistics and raster processing
  • Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe InDesign or similar graphic production software (i.e Adobe CS5)
  • Projects related to the natural environment (aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems)
  • Working and communicating with diverse groups of people in dynamic settings
  • Advanced knowledge of GIS modeling approaches and procedures
  • Excellent cartographic skills in developing various communication delivery products
  • Working knowledge of biophysical habitat inventories
  • Strong data management skills
