Job Description: 

The Piedmont Environmental Council was founded in 1972 with the purpose of preserving important attributes of the Northern Piedmont region of Virginia. Those key attributes are the open spaces, natural viewsheds, historic features, agricultural activity and the clean air and water that make living, working and visiting the region so special. Protecting these attributes, while recognizing the importance of economic vitality, has always been, and remains our core organizational goal.

Job Description & Areas of Responsibility

The Fauquier County Land Use Officer is responsible for the following:

  • Monitor land use activities in Fauquier County
  • Regularly attend meetings of the Fauquier Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission and other meetings as necessary
  • Keep the public informed of happenings throughout Fauquier County
  • Community education and outreach
  • Provide support to other community activist groups and the local government
  • Volunteer on local, state and national campaigns
  • Assist technical staff with keeping county website up to date
  • Keep PEC staff, board and committees up to date
  • Provide legal assistance to other field staff
  • Look for opportunities to improve PEC and accomplish its mission
  • Establish and maintain positive image of PEC

Qualifications

  • College degree required - preferably in Planning or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
  • Ability to recruit and motivate diverse groups of people.
  • Be a self-starter with good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • An interest in the history and culture of Virginia's piedmont region.
  • Experience with the dynamics of rural communities and land use and transportation issues preferred.

Compensation

Salary will commensurate with experience.
