Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include endangered species assessments, habitat restoration, wetland characterizations, and water resources management. We are seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our team and advance their career.

Stantec’s Guelph office is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our Natural Heritage team. In this critical role you will be called on to provide expert leadership to bird studies related to Wind Farms.  Please note that this position could be located in Kitchener or Markham for the right individual.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and conduct :
    • Biological inventories,
    • Environmental impact assessments,
    • A variety of natural resource planning projects.
  • Senior level project management.
  • Data analysis and management.
  • Report preparation.
  • Client relations.
  • Business development and growth.
  • Supervision of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Senior technical review and mentorship of staff.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in a related discipline from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 10 years experience which must include some consulting with energy-related projects.
  • Experience leading technical portions of Environmental Assessments and/or Environmental Impact Studies.
  • Experience with the natural heritage policies of the Provincial Policy Statement, EA legislation and regulatory agencies (i.e., Municipal EIS).
  • Experience in Ornithology as it relates to impact assessment
  • Experience with Ontario ecosystems (i.e., ELC classifications, Wetlands Evaluation, etc).
  • Strong written and verbal skills (Publications should include peer reviewed technical papers and regulatory submissions). 
  • A valid drivers license is required.
