| Job Description: |
Clean Water Fund’s Boston, Massachusetts office is hiring an Online Communications Organizer to support two of Clean Water’s core campaigns: a new Massachusetts-based initiative to combat global warming, and an award-winning national environmental health campaign called the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. Clean Water Fund (CWF) is a national non-profit research and education organization that promotes the public interest on issues relating to energy, water, waste, toxics and natural resources. CWF's goals include building support for environmental health and a clean tech economy, empowering citizens to create grassroots power, and shifting the market away from toxic chemicals and toward safer alternatives. Cool Change: Building Power in Massachusetts to Take Back Our Climate Climate change is one of the most critical challenges of our time, particularly in Massachusetts where the threat of sea level rise has major implications for coastal population centers like Boston. Following a multi-year campaign calling for leadership from Massachusetts officials to address this crisis, Massachusetts adopted mandatory reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions in the Commonwealth in 2008. Our challenge is to ensure that this roadmap is implemented in a meaningful and impactful way, helping to set a model transformation for other states to follow. Two initial priorities have emerged for this exciting new campaign: phasing out coal-generated electricity by 2020 and increasing energy efficiency, particularly in heating and powering our homes. Through our partnership with the Green Justice Coalition, CWF is committed to expanding access to and transparency of energy efficiency programs for low-to-moderate income communities in Massachusetts while increasing high road green jobs creation. Progress in all communities throughout the state will be necessary to meet the challenge of global warming so it is critical that none are left behind. Environmental Health Organizing: The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a national coalition launched in 2004 to protect the health of consumers, workers and the environment by securing the necessary reforms to eliminate dangerous chemicals from cosmetics and personal care products. Under current law, it is legal for cosmetics - including everyday products like shampoo, soap, lotion, bubble bath, aftershave and makeup - to contain chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm and other adverse health impacts, and many of these ingredients are kept hidden from consumers. Clean Water Fund is a leading coalition member of the Campaign, committed to bringing about common-sense reforms that stimulate green chemistry programs and safer alternatives. The Campaign has a large and growing network of online supporters and social media fans/followers, and communicates with a diverse audience including teens, moms, consumers, voters, cosmetics companies, health and beauty professionals, members of the media and elected officials. The Campaign needs an Online Communications Organizer who will effectively manage the website and email outreach and contribute to outside-the-box thinking to organize individuals, organizations and businesses in support of a greener, safer cosmetics industry. The Campaign is multi-layered and innovative, effectively meshing strategies that yield company-specific corporate commitments as well as safe cosmetics policy gains at the state and national level. These two campaigns require vibrant, creative and professional outreach strategies and tactics. The Online Communications Organizer will utilize and build out campaign websites, organizing tools, and social networks in a team-based setting to help mobilize campaign partners, potential supporters and media.
