Please note this position is for a Materials Testing Supervisor with The National Testing Laboratories Limited, now an affiliate of Stantec. Responsibilities: - Includes the supervision of technologists conducting field and laboratory testing of concrete, bituminous paving mixtures, soils and aggregates
- Responsible for the routine and specialized technical and engineering related analysis of associated materials in accordance with ASTM and CSA test methods for design and quality control purposes
- Plans and organizes daily activities within the Materials Testing department including providing coaching, training and direction to subordinate staff in performing all aspects of their duties including the processing, analysis and interpretation of test results.
- Responsible for the accuracy, validity and timeliness of the performance of field and laboratory testing involving construction materials including concrete, bituminous paving mixtures, soils and aggregates, bridge condition surveys and investigative coring programs.
- Performs bituminous and concrete mix designs and trial batching.
- Communicates test results, both orally and written, and provides technical advice, within critical time lines, to both internal staff and external clients with regards to soils, concrete and aggregate issues.
- Updates and maintains the Materials Testing Services equipment management database
- Communicates and enforces the Workplace Health & Safety standards and operating practices.
Qualifications: - Civil Engineering Technology graduate with 5 years of extensive work-related experience or have equivalent education and experience and be eligible for certification in CTTAM.
- Must have extensive technical knowledge and work experience in the field and laboratory testing of concrete, bituminous paving mixtures, soils and aggregates, and in the use of related laboratory testing equipment.
- Must have knowledge and experience with related ASTM and CSA test procedures.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge and experience in working with computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated independence of action and judgment and be capable of working independently or in a team environment.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational and time management skills to effectively supervise staff, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail, accuracy and high quality output.
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 25-kg test samples as required by applicable test procedures.
