Position Title: Business Development Manager
Reports to: Vice President Business Development
Position Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to develop new revenue from foundations, other donors and technical consulting opportunities. The Business Development Manager will also work closely with the VP of Business Development and technical team members to support all of the revenue goals of the organization.
Location: Portland, Oregon with potential to consider relocation to Seattle, Sacramento or San Francisco after one year.

Duties & Responsibilities Major Responsibilities

(1) Work closely with the Vice President and President to implement a business development plan to generate $1M in foundation grants, program-related investments, and other charitable donations.
(2) This position will have primary responsibility for revenue generation in the Western U.S. with opportunities that are typically as much as $100,000. The position will lead and assist with proposals in specific sectors depending on person’s experience (e.g. climate change, renewable biogas, agriculture, forestry, etc.).
Specific responsibilities:
• Managing, cultivating and maintaining existing relationships with utilities, companies, private foundations, and consulting firms.
• Identifying, cultivating, and soliciting relationships with new prospective clients and funding partners. This work includes researching organizations, cold calling, and meeting face to face to develop deeper relationships.
• Developing concepts and writing proposals will account for a significant portion (1/3 or more) of this position’s responsibilities. This role will require working closely with other TCT staff to develop proposal objectives, activities and budgets.
• Providing input to marketing and communications staff to design appropriate marketing collateral to support the revenue development plans of the organization.

Prioritizing relationships and requesting support from senior management in order to meet short-term and long-term goals is critical.
• Coordinate fundraising and grant cultivation activities including progress reports, special appeals, gift processing, generating acknowledgement letters, manage and maintaining organization’s database such as updates or transition to new database records (addresses, unsubscribes, etc.), enter data into database, and produce routine and customized reports as needed.

Be a resource and innovative thinker to match The Climate Trust’s objectives with those of our prospective partners to unlock revenues and overcome obstacles.
• Serve as one of the primary spokespersons for the organization representing The Climate Trust in external communications.
• Organize staff development and networking opportunities relating to business development and philanthropic funding.
• Assist with meeting the goals of The Climate Trust’s 3 year business plan.

• Understanding of the carbon market or climate mitigation in the renewable energy, agriculture, forestry, transportation, or other related sectors is required.
• A pleasant demeanor with customer service focus for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to be flexible with assignments/priorities reflecting changing needs of the organization.
• Ability to implement tasks with minimal oversight.
• Willingness to follow through on tasks.

Preferred Talents

Fund raising experience within a non-profit or proposal writing experience within a consulting firm.
• Experience in growing an organization in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Experience developing new consulting or financial services particularly integrating loans or other project financing.
• Strong computer skills, especially in Salesforce, Excel, and Word.
