Job Description: 

Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) has a full-time opening for an Invasive Species Coordinator. This position will be based in Pittsburgh. The Invasive Species Coordinator works to develop and coordinate a reporting and inventory system for Pennsylvania’s Invasive Species in order to further the goal of conserving Pennsylvania’s native plants and animals. This will be accomplished by forging and maintaining relationships with state entities and individuals interested in invasive species detection, management and treatment; iMapInvasives (http://imapinvasives.org/) website setup and maintenance; gathering and entering invasive species data; and maintaining quality control for the Pennsylvania invasive species data entered into the system. The Invasive Species Coordinator works closely with other members of the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program to accomplish tasks.

Qualifications include one or more years experience with database and GIS software with prior experience converting non-spatial data to a spatial (GIS) format using ESRI ArcGIS strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be able to work in both DOS and Windows-based programs. Masters degree or equivalent work experience in biological sciences required; direct experience with invasive species beneficial and desirable. Additional skills include detail-oriented and accurate when dealing with data; strong organizational, relationship-building, communication and presentation skills; experience in coordinating projects that produce specific products within deadline(s); and good reasoning/problem-solving skills.
