Job Description: 

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading national nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks to hire a qualified manager who can play a major leadership role as part of the ACEEE industrial team. ACEEE is dedicated to advancing and deploying energy efficiency technologies, policies, and programs as a means of promoting economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection.

Position Description:

ACEEE is looking for a dynamic individual with experience and skills conducting research and analysis on energy efficiency in the manufacturing sector. The ideal candidate will have experience working with policymakers, energy efficiency programs and industrial firms, and be familiar with the development of manufacturing and industrial-focused energy efficiency policies, programs, and management plans.

This research position will report to ACEEE’s Associate Director for Research and will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking policy and technical research projects;
  • Developing new projects and funding proposals;
  • Providing oversight to other industrial program staff on their projects and development;
  • Representing the program at industrial and policy meetings;
  • Engaging with policymakers and energy efficiency advocates to develop  manufacturing energy efficiency policies and programs;
  • Maintaining relationships with corporate and trade association leaders, industrial energy efficiency programs, non-governmental organizations and national and state policy leaders.

The position is full time and based out of ACEEE’s office in downtown Washington, D.C.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Candidates for the senior associate position should have:

  • At least 5 years experience (10 years preferred) working in or with industry in a technical and policy-making capacity;
  • Technical experience in manufacturing processes, energy management, and combined heat and power (CHP) is strongly preferred;
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability;
  • A master’s or professional degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, with a degree or relevant experience in engineering or sciences strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of corporate management, finance, and/or industrial project financing a plus;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with extensive experience in public presentations, testimony, and interaction with the press strongly preferred; and
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.

Timing: The position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus ACEEE’s generous fringe benefit package.
