Job Description:  Overview:

Our Environmental Management practice is dedicated to helping our clients manage their environmental issues.  We support our clients through the strategic planning, environmental assessment, permitting, construction, and operational phases of their projects.  Over the past 10 years, we have worked on most of the highest profile projects in western Canada.  Our staff includes professionals in the fields of wildlife biology, botany, wetland science, fisheries biology, marine biology, water quality, soil science, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, air quality, GIS and regulatory approvals.

 

To support current projects and future opportunities, we are seeking Environmental Monitors to join our team in Burnaby. This is an hourly contract position with a minimum term of three months. This position requires an individual with experience in erosion and sediment control practices, as well as a willingness to work with contractors to ensure compliance with environmental permitting requirements.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinate environmental permitting for local construction projects throughout the lower mainland
  • Conduct water quality sampling and data collection
  • Conduct fish and wildlife salvages (electrofishing certification required)
  • Complete monitoring reports, as required, to document environmental compliance
  • Development of environmental management plans
  • Implement and monitor erosion and sediment control measures to ensure protection of water quality
  • Liaise with contractors to provide direction on implementation of environmental protection plans
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following: 

  • Minimum of a Degree or Diploma in Biology or other related field along with 1+ years of environmental monitoring experience
  • Electrofishing certification
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, effective verbal and written communication
  • Experience working with contractors on active construction sites
  • Flexible schedule, valid driver’s licence, and access to a vehicle
  • Environmental monitoring and/or erosion and sediment control training an asset
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws as well as provincial and federal legislation and permitting requirements for fisheries and water quality an asset
  • Occupational Level 1 First Aid an asset
  • Valid Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
